Thank you for coming to our Open Day. We're delighted that you've come to experience the atmosphere in our school and we hope you enjoy your afternoon with the children. After you've had a brief chat with Mr Beattie in the Assembly Hall, you'll hear from a couple of our P7 pupils; hopefully you'll find that encouraging! Then we'll take you on a short tour of the school, where you'll be able to take part in activities with our children and speak to teachers as you make your way around.
In Primary 1 at Moorfields, children are taught by Mrs McMullan - you'll meet her today! The children really enjoy Mrs McMullan and she has a wonderful rapport with them. Much of the curriculum in P1 is taught through play activities, but our children will also progress into letters, sounds, reading and writing at this early stage. Children are always excited about their first homework - and this continues throughout the year to cement their class learning. Our communication and learning platforms keep you up to date with how you can help your children at home - we really value the partnership between home and school, so we regularly share resources and information.

Moorfields PS currently has 216 pupils in seven straight year group classes - so all the children stay together in their year groups as they make their way through the school. The school is also a great size for all the children to be able to play together at lunchtime - so there's a real family feel here - all the children get to know each other very quickly and the senior kids love to be involved with taking care of the little ones!
We have fantastic facilities at Moorfields! Each classroom is bright, warm and friendly with excellent resources for really engaging learning times. We have lots of practical equipment and great communal areas for interactive learning. Our two outdoor climbing frames are really popular with all the children and our little shed is full of brilliant resources for our outdoor learning and play days. The Happy Hut is a great spot for story time in the fresh air. Each classroom has attached toilet facilities.
We have a fantastic football/sports field and a brilliant sports hall for PE every week. Children have the opportunity to play a wide variety of sport, both during school time and extra-curricular time. The Acorn room and Group room provide a great space for one-to-one learning, group work, sensory space and music tuition as well as our Moorfields Minis Club, which meets from 2-3pm every day.
Each class has a space-age activ-panel, which is a great tool for teachers as they demonstrate their lessons with the children's help. We have a great range of computers, iPads and coding equipment for those who want to get even more technical!!

Our Christian Ethos
Here at Moorfields, we have a warm Christian ethos - we believe that all children have value and purpose and that they are created equal in the image of God. We recognise the value in every child, regardless of background, race or culture. The warmth of our Christian ethos is felt by everyone in school and in our community.
Our motto is 'Caring and Learning'. We believe that when children are cared for and appreciated; when they are happy in school - great learning can happen on that foundation. We want every child to reach their potential - that's why we challenge children every day in a variety of ways to improve and make progress.

Our Vision
"To nurture independent and well-rounded students who are academically proficient, socially adept and morally sound, empowering them to move confidently to the next phase of their education."
Everything we do at Moorfields is with the goal of moving the children towards our vision. We have shaped our vision carefully to reflect our desire to help the kids grow academically, physically, socially and morally so that they are well prepared to take the step to post-primary school with confidence. We want the children to know and understand this, so we articulate our vision for them in this way;
Nurture and Support
School is a really structured and safe place for children - but it can be a little overwhelming at times and there are plenty of kids who benefit from an extra little bit of help. Our SEN teacher, Mrs Kerr, has a busy timetable of support sessions with children of all ages. We aim to support their learning, boost their confidence - and when required, we make sure to seek more support from the best services.
If you have any concerns about your child's learning journey to date, please don't hesitate to talk to us about this! We'll never jump to conclusions, but we'll work with you and try to guide you towards the best options to support your children. Let us know if you'd like to have a chat with Mrs Kerr during our Open Day.

Everyone's Involved!
Our School Council, Eco-Committee and Digital Leaders team are always busy thinking of new ways to improve our school and developing posters and videos to explain new initiatives to their classmates. Recently the school council introduced a new reward system to motivate readers and they continue to meet regularly. The Eco-Committee works hard making sure that we look after our environment, minimise our waste to landfill and get involved in healthy, natural activities. The Digital Leaders are forever providing technical support for younger pupils (and also the staff!).
Moorfields Minis
Our Moorfields Minis Club is really popular with the P1, P2 and P3 children. Every day from 2-3pm they can meet in our Acorn room for a snack and a variety of fun activities. The Minis club is really handy if there are older siblings in school; you can synchronise the pick-up times if you wish. But it's for any kids who'd like to come along! Minis costs just £3 per day so it helps save a little money on childcare and the children love it!
